One day you finally knew…

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting their bad advice.

                                    -Mary Oliver

I have been away from this blog for too long.  I have let the details of the days get in the way. Days have passed, one detail arises where another was finished, and before long, I have not done one of the things that feeds my soul the most:  writing.

It is not that I haven’t been busy on important projects, because I have.  Since my last entry, I have completed the editing process for my book, Live a Mythic Life – a hero’s journey to vision, purpose and service; I have spent time in Colorado with my good friends and colleges Mike Bodkin and Deb Siverson working on the vision for our retreat program, The Quest for Authentic Leadership; and I have been teaching classes and leading retreats.  But my blogging has suffered.

I suspect that this is not a foreign idea to many reading these words.  Many of us suffer from falling into the pattern of putting off that which we truly love to do while we tend to the many things in our lives that we think we have to do.  But in the process, what happens to the essential parts of us?  What happens to the gift we were born to bring into the world?  If we don’t do the one unique and particular thing we were born to do, then who will?

As the summer winds down, the days become shorter, and the nights a bit cooler, our bodies long to turn inward as the Earth in the northern hemisphere does so as well.  Take the time to refocus on doing those things that truly serve your soul – those things that, when you are doing them, you lose all track of time and that bring you a sense of deep and abiding joy.  Then, let me know about them.  I love to hear the stories of others journeying along with me on this mythic path.  Many Blessings.
