I went backpacking over the weekend…

As Featured On EzineArticles

It’s Tuesday morning and I’m still trying to recover. Yesterday it was my body, today it’s my soul. I left something out there in the woods and ever since I returned home I have been struggling to get it back. As I meditated this morning I began to get a deeper level of clarity and understanding. I began to simply allow whatever it was I left out there to remain there, and to accept the gift the woods gave to me in return. Continue reading I went backpacking over the weekend…

Spring stirrings…

Spring is definitely here. Not only am I feeling its presence in the warm sun’s rays on my skin—skin that hasn’t seen the light of day for months—I am feeling it in my soul. I am waking up and feeling a new (renewed?) sense of possibility. I am present to everything and everyone around me to a degree I haven’t been for months and the earth is saying, “Welcome back, Tom. Welcome home”

Perhaps a contributing factor to my mood is that I finished my book this week. Yes, I know, I’ve said that before, but this time I really mean it. I’ve sent it off to the publisher and called it “done.” The projected delivery date is early June. Stay tuned.

Along with its completion, the book also received a new name:

Your Place in the World: Creating a life of vision, purpose, and service.

The title speaks to the innate desire we all have to find the one particular place in the world where we feel a deep sense of belonging, a fit, a home.  The subtitle identifies the path I offer the reader.

What about you? Are you feeling a stirring, a vague need to wander just a bit? Got Spring fever? Maybe your time has come. If so, I invite you to join me on the next Soul Quest Weekend, May 7-9 at Prairie State Park near Lamar, MO.   Here’s what others have said about their experience of this program:

“My weekend at Prairie State Park…was magical… “
“What makes Tom stand out the most is that he asks questions rather than give answers. He does not tell you who you are. Rather, he holds a sacred space for your own self discovery. He inspires the wisdom that lives in each one of us.”
“This experience will either show you your purpose in life or bring you closer to it.”
“My vision quest weekend really opened me up to the Great Spirit.”

You can find out more about this program by clicking here.

Due to the kind and generous offer of a previous participant, I am able to offer some limited scholarships for the program. So, if you are feeling the urge to attend but unable to pay the entire fee, please contact me directly for more information.

Whether you join me at Soul Quest Weekend or not, I invite you to find the time to enjoy the budding of spring. Get out into nature and allow the new growth to inspire something new to take form in you. Shed the old cloak of winter, and along with it, the old ideas that have held you back from finding your place of belonging, your reason for being.

Welcome to spring. Welcome home.

A quiet desperation…

We are living at the end of a decade that started with the devastating events of September 11, 2001 and concluded with what has come to be called The Great Recession. One of the things these two bookends to the decade have in common is they have, each in their own way, pushed many of us to ask ourselves some difficult questions: What do I truly value? What is the deeper meaning of my life? What legacy do I want to leave for my children?  Sometimes those who are called to ask themselves these kinds of questions lack a framework within which to begin to find the answers, and so the questions are stuffed down with an intention to return to them later. Once asked, however, the questions remain, coming back now and then to haunt our dreams. Continue reading A quiet desperation…

Heartbreak and Bliss…

I have to admit, I have been feeling a bit of despair recently.

My dream is for a world alive with vision, and everywhere I look, I see a lack of it; in politics, business, education, healthcare; my list could go on. It’s not that I am just now becoming aware of the issues of the world; I have always kept current on the news, but for some reason, it has been affecting me more deeply lately.

I knew that something was up for me, some kind of message was trying to get through, so in my meditation time this morning, I asked “What is this all about? Why am I feeling this way?” Then, some words that I had written for my book came to me: Continue reading Heartbreak and Bliss…

A new story…

I recently discovered a story.  Perhaps, more accurately, the story discovered me.  It is a story about what can happen when we try to use old tools to solve new problems.   It is a story of reconciliation and forgiveness.  It is a story about vision, purpose, and service.  Above all else, it is a story about the need for a new kind of leadership based on the power of collective wisdom; and the need for a new kind of leader who has been initiated into the gifts of their soul.  It is the story of Raven Hawk, and it is time for it to be told.
